ASUS BW-16D1HT No Disk

Post by RockB » Sun Jul 11, 2021 8:00 pm

The ASUS BW-16D1HT still reads CD's and DVD's but won't do Bluray. MAKEMKV gives the No
DISK message. By mistake, I did the Asus firmware upgrade to 3.10 a while back. I am just
getting to see my problem with reading UHD & Blu-ray. I ran the SDFTOOL to install
mk-firmware-pack-20200720. The SDF program ran successfully but it did not appear to do anything.
I then ran the modified ASUS tool to with DE 3.01 and then ran SDFtool after rebooting, to bring it up to 3.10mk but the drive still says NO DISK on Blu-ray. DVD still works.
Current Firmware:
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: DVD+R DL
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.10
Serial number: SIK9DH1LE590
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 10:14
Bus encryption flags: 1F

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 3.10
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted

How can I get this to work? I know there are a lot of you people who have dealt with this before. I am confused as to why its not working. Shouldn't Revision: 3.10 also have MK on it?

your bluray laser is probably dead
you can try taking it apart and cleaning the lasers

Thanks so much for you guys wanting to help. :D

All along I was powering down and unplugging and that never helped. What did help was CLEANING the LASER. I wiped the lens with 70% Isopropyl and then wiped the lens clean with the dry end of the Q-tip.

I never used this drive much before because my storage did not easily support the large file sizes created by Blu-ray. I also have a DVD burner installed that is primarily for everything else. I've used MakeMKV now on a couple of BR and they are readable.
BTW - Great program. I am going to enjoy playing with it.
