ALERT ASUS BC-12D2HT New Firmware 3.11

Post by DVD Maniac » Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:39 pm

Just got a new one of these. Others had 3.01 which all the usual tools were fine with. New batch received with 3.11 suddenly and cannot cross flash - Error # 4

PM sent to DVD Maniac.

If anyone else has this model drive with 3.11, please do not try and flash it just yet. Please wait for further information.

Thanks
Cheers :D

Problem solved! Thanks Marty you are a star. :D Understand you need to do more testing but it worked fine for me. Build is April 2019 - Taiwan now not China curiously

Good stuff @DVD Maniac!! Glad it works.

For anyone else wanting to downgrade your BC-12D2HT with firmware 3.11, please use the 3.11-MK firmware that Mike created from the dump I sent him. I've been waiting for Mike to update the MK pack with this firmware but he hasn't as yet.

At this stage, I don't know if this firmware is UHD friendly or not but you can flash to this 3.11-MK firmware, then flash to 3.01 if that is the end goal.

Firmware file attached below.

ASUS-BC-12D2HT-3.11-WM00300-211902271319.zip
(1.11 MiB) Downloaded 1377 times

If you use it, please let us know if it is "UHD friendly" or not....

Cheers!

Pretty sure re-enabling microcode access ("UHD friendly") is a hallmark of the 'MK' FWs, but I look forward to confirmation.

MK firmware != UHD friendly.

I believe his goal was to enable microcode access so that basically drives would not be revoked with new MKB updates and that discs can be read in raw mode.

In saying that, we are fortunate that some (not all) MK firmwares have re-enabled UHD friendliness but this is not why Mike created them.

I can now confirm it works and not a one off, many thanks to Marty and Mike for their help. I have tested now with a second unit with troublesome titles like Mockingjay etc and all work perfectly. I have run some detailed drive tests and this new FW if retained in MK form performs MUCH better than the older ones. It gets pretty close to BW-16D1HT standards. Proves the point Mike has made that downgrading is not the way to go if you want optimal performance, Detailed test results will be posted shortly.

I think I have proof about downgrading. ASUS BW-16D1HT drive about 2 years old previously cross flashed with DosFlash with the much older FW''s and worked perfectly now is struggling with newer titles like the matrix UHD boxset. Spends ages booting it up with lots of jigger jiggering noises for about 2 minutes, eventually loads but refuses to play on any SW. Latest build April 2019 with MK cross flashed 3.10 no issues. Its a new disk, cleaned thoroughly and no scratches obviously. I would say that backs up Mike's advice 100%! :D

Or maybe it's because it's 2 years old but on new asus's I use 3.10mk but on all other drives unless otherwise requested I use WH16NS60 1.00 except for bu40n I use 1.00 for that to.

Can you link me to Mike's advice I seem to have missed it.

i see i did see that but that post was around before MK firmware was i thing back then i interpreted it as stop using dosflash and bricking drives lol because a lot of people wouldn't move there cal data over and the consequences were drive wont read disk no more.
i can see how it can be interpreted both was though
