Absolutely best drives

#1 Post by sazer80 » Fri Jul 28, 2023 5:58 pm

After using two drives so far, I still run into the occasional read errors. So what I wondering if there are a list of drives that have been tested 100% free of read errors?

Not going to happen. Disks have errors. Some are transient, some are permanent. But the most perfect drive out there isn't going to read an error-prone disk 100% of the time.

Some disks require higher retry rates than average. Some disks are manufactured with errors (yes, it happens!).

Having multiple brands (actual brand, rather than the "virtual brands" used by manufacturers) can make it more likely to be able to read "every disk" in your collection using one of your drives.

I'm hard pressed to believe a pioneer drive with read discs better than 4 (buffalo, lg, & Asus) drives I'm currently using. Unless it's a FW thing.

These 4 drives below (with AIO FW recommended in 1st post of this thread) have exactly the same performance in my experience with ripping about 30 discs so far. If Makemkv throws an error, that error will be replicated with all 4 of my drives.
Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK
ASUS BW-16D1HT
LG BP60NB10

You should trust our sellers Billy, asmcon and Marty. If a Pioneer can't read a disc, the disc is defective or damaged. 30 discs is a very low number compared to what they tested.

This is a link to one of the forum sellers EBAY page. This is the drive I purchased and so far the only error I have seen with this drive was because the disc was dirty. As soon as I cleaned the disc and tried again it worked fine. It ripped other movies just fine that my previous drive would err on. As far as I could tell this was the best drive currently available, and so far I have not been disappointed with it. FYI, I'm in the US, the international shipping wasn't a problem.
