Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD rips faster in backup mode?

#1 Post by Asparagus » Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:55 pm

I recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD drive and have been happy with it so far (except for the death grip the spindle seems to put on the disc).

I've noticed some strange behavior with the drive in MakeMKV. If I use the backup mode, the disc rips at the drive's rated speed, or at least somewhat close to it (3.5x-5.5x). However, if I use the standard "pick the titles and generate MKVs from them" mode, the drive never seems to clear 2.0x. This shift in speed happens even if I don't switch the disc, so I'm pretty sure that it's a hardware issue and not a disc issue.

Is this due to some RipLock-esque feature, or is there just a setting I need to change?
