I am just starting my venture into backing up my 4k dvds.
I will never copy a 4k dvd, my wish it to upload to my nas drive and use remotely on my tvs.
Do I need an under drive like the ones listed $$$ or are those only for making copies?
I ask because the one drive I have interest is $175, and I thought I could just get one for much less. Of course my friend said they are around $50.

Your message is full of conflicting information.
You say you want to back up your "4k dvds", but then say you will "never copy a 4K dvd". I guess you mean that you're never planning on WRITING a 4k disk, but that's kind of moot... You need a 4k-capable drive just to read them.
As such, you're looking at a dwindling supply of possibilities. And there are already topics here on the board that discuss them, including where you can still buy 4k-capable drives (they're getting rare).

Correct I won’t write any dvd’s. Thank you for your reply.
And you are correct, I’m having a hard time finding any drives, even on marketplace.

You will need a Libredrive enabled and UHD capable drive. Best to start by reading the first post of the Ultimate UHD drive guide 2026 thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634.
There are also some sellers on here (including myself, see my signature). You can find more here: viewforum.php?f=20
Cheers
