Drive Load Issues With BP50NB40 NB52 After Flashing

Post by RakaiFox »

So I've been using MakeMKV for almost a year now and got the BP50NB40 NB52 as my drive for Blu-Rays. I had enabled Libredrive awhile back and hadn't had much issue since. Last month I started getting some 4K discs and so I went through the process of Flashing it to BP60NB10 1.00-MK. I followed the instructions here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896

Since then it has worked for some 4K discs, but I am also getting intermittent read errors where some discs, UHD & regular Blu-Ray will not read 90% of the time. It will try for a minute or two and then say that there's no disc in the drive. I haven't been able to nail down a pattern, but it isn't even giving me an error message that I can see.

Is there a way to try and reset the drive and re-flash it? Or is it possibly a physical issue with the drive? I have had and been using the drive pretty heavily since May 2025.

Here's the info from MakeMKV after it attempts to load the disc:

99.9% certain it is not a firmware issue.

Power down the drive (and maybe the PC) for a few minutes before powering back up again. Also clean those discs before trying to read them again. Even if they look pristine, give'em a clean! It often helps.
Cheers :D

I'll give this a try. I've powered the PC and drive on and off a good few times between attempts, but I'll give it another attempt. It doesn't seem to do it with DVDs when I rip them, only UHD & Blu-Ray. I might also try with a different computer and see if that has any effect.

I think I may have figured it out. Upon moving and re-hooking up the drive I found that the cord wasn't making full connection to the drive. It was connected and was getting power, but the lack of full connection may have been causing it to not have full power. I am testing it now having re-seated the cord and it appears to be working.

Also check the reliability of reading CDs and DVDs. That way you can figure out whether the mechanical functioning and the red laser are working well.
