LG WH16NS60 has died. Now what?

Post by CorporalKnobby »

So 3/4 the way through my DVD & Blu-ray collection my LG WH16NS60 has apparently died. When I load a disk it spins it up and after a few second it makes almost like a vibration noise or rubbing noise for a minute and then stops doing anything. OS doesn't recognize the disk once the noise stops. I've tried reflashing the firmware with the SDFtool but no change. Has she really bitten the dust? What options do I have now? Any suggestions?

I think my LG WH14NS40 just died today too.
I ripped 2 4K movies today, on the third got several iSCSI errors, tried to open again and it wouldn't open the disc anymore.
Tried the disc previously ripped and it won't open. Tried a DVD and it works. Tried an old Blu-ray and won't open too.

I have ripped about 60-70 movies with this drive.
Anything I can do?

BTW I think I was predicting the eventual death of the drive. Because I had just bought another backup drive this last week, it doesn't arrived yet. I have read that these drives are not reliable and because LG stopped making blu-ray drives I though it was good to have a backup, specially also because I'm in Brazil and the drives are very rare to find.

Did you turn it off for 5 mins?

I had not turned off at the time.
But I re-flashed the drive and it worked again.

I was able to copy a couple standard bluray discs and 4K discs, but one movie, WarGames UHD, it's giving me errors:

Just the end part of the log:
