VERBATIM Blu-Ray Slimline Ultra HD 4K USB (43888 - PIONEER BDR-UD04) burning problem

Post by AlmostAGeek »

Hi,
I have a problem with VERBATIM Blu-Ray Slimline Ultra HD 4K USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB-C) (43888 - PIONEER BDR-UD04 FW: BDR-US04 v1.14 inside).
MakeMKV rips everything without problems, no read problems. But I tried to burn Verbatim 25GB M-Disc in Nero 2020 and i've noticed six pauses during burning. Used read buffer was still at 100% and buffer level was still at 97%. After burn read test was without any slowdown or pauses. I have also LG BH16NS55 (FW: WH16NS60 1.02MK flashed a few days ago - thx guys :). And this LG burns without pauses. Yes, I am a gadgeteer, if that's a word to describe me? Is the Verbatim really better quality than my LG as I´ve read on this forum?
Now another problem, every app can see both my drives, but Nero Discspeed (7.0.2.100) only newer one - Verbatim.
Sorry for such a mess in my post. Pls, any explanation, advice?

P.S.: I'm starting a 4K ripping for my personal use. My very first 4K rip that I am working on is LOTR of course... :) Yep, another fantasy man.

Most likely a power problem. The Verbatim enclosures are very power hungry. Connect to USB3 or use a powered USB hub.
The Pioneer is the better burner but for 25GB discs it almost doesn't matter. It matters big time if you burn 50GB discs.

Thank you for reply.
I'm running the Verbatim drive in USB 3.1 gen 1, which is perhaps the same as USB 3.2 gen 1. Today I tried powered USB hub with the same behaviour as before. Even no matter if I burn M-disc or non-M-disc Verbatim BD-R. There are still several pauses.
I give up, I won't find out where the rub is. I don't even know if this is a reason to complain.
I'll try Verbatim support, wonder what they'll say.

Thanks
