LG-BU40N with 1.04 firmware

Post by jisaac75 »

Not sure what im doing wrong here. Ive tried Sdftool to send 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin' to this drive. It says successful but when i open Makemkv UHD is still not supported. Also tried the modified ASUS ODD FW changer. It fails immediately. Any other firmware that i send using Sdftool is successful (Bu40N 1.03, 1.02 etc) but the drive still shows up at 1.04

any help would be appreciated. And i did research the boards i just couldnt find an example with BU40N 1.04

Stock BU40N 1.04 is an encrypted firmware. Did you enable "enc" option in SDFtool Flasher before pressing START? You must do this for the flash to actually stick.

Also, once flashed to 1.04-MK, I would not keep the drive on it. I would flash the drive again, to DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.
Cheers :D

Just ordered my first BU40N drive as a back-up for my two ASUS drives which are almost always ok. I have the SDF flash tool up and running and the MK firmware pack. So I should be good to move across to 1.04MK. But curious, why would I then move over to DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 ? I tracked down a DE V.2 zip file and see there is a DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin file, but since I'd prefer only to flash with good reason, wanted to ask what benefit I'd get.

By the way, there is also a DE_flash...BU40N_BU10.bin file, which at first I thought might be 1.00, but I guess this is something else?

BU40N 1.00 has wider software compatibility.
BU10 is Buffalo firmware.
