Are any "4K" slim bluray drives on amazon trustworthy?

Post by Qcom512 »

Hello, I guess disney has forced me into getting a 4k drive to play atmos tracks thats only on the 4k disc, so trying to find one on amazon. Would I be able to wait to save up for more amazon giftcards or should I buy one now? the only two that look trust worthy are

https://www.amazon.com/Amazonia-Verbati ... ref=sr_1_3

https://www.amazon.com/XRTFORE-External ... ref=sr_1_9

I've seen the other posts about guaranteed to work drives but those are so expensive.

Thanks.

I can confirm that the first link is a valid drive. I bought that same one like a month ago although it took several weeks to ship (I finally got it last week). I was able to flash it and confirmed I could rip 4K discs with it.

I just bought the XRTFORE external 4K UHD drive on Amazon. It had a BDRE BU40N drive with 2016 firmware. It successfully flashed to Libre with the SDFtool flasher and I've used Makemkv on 9 UHD BD-100 discs so far with no problems. The drive is stated to also support BDXL 128GB discs. Read rate was steady at 6.0x and I plugged the drive into a powered USB hub. Very happy with my purchase and the information and resources here to flash the drive.

I bought a second XRTFore as backup. It also was a BU40N drive, flashed firmware to 1.03 and now supports Libre and also rips UHD 4K discs successfully. Safely put away for the future in the nice Carry Case it came with.
