Best Course of Action BW-16D1HT

Post by JediSamReye »

Hello everyone!
I have a BW-16D1HT, I bought it years ago from Alex. Since then I have ripped around 500 UHD discs, and it has been flawless.
A month ago I started having issues with it taking a disc, and starts to read, and then it just stops. Never reports a disc in the drive, it is doing this with 4k and bluray. CDs do work fine
I was powering off the computer, unplugging wall power, and then plugging it back in, and it sometimes would bring it back.

Recently I tried a bluray drive cleaning disc, and after that I got a couple discs to read, then stopped.

Then I took the drive cover off, and I cleaned the lens with alcohol, and put a small amount of lithium on the rails. Still not reading bluray / 4K.
CD are working fine.

At this point I think the laser might be dead, and I have ordered a replacement Asus drive, that currently doesnt have LibeDrive flashed on it, I was wondering what would make the most sense here, discard the old drive, flash the new drive and call it a day, or should I swap lasers / or something else you are thinking, or any other suggestions?

I would do: Selling the old drive as defective and flashing the new drive to WH16NS60 1.02MK.
