As suggested in the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2021" thread, I purchased a WH14NS40 (ROM version 1.05) and a Unitek Y-1039 (model # 93-Y-1039-US).
However, the two do not appear to be working together. When I connect the device to my Windows PC I get "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed.)
I've tried:
Multiple USB ports
Another PC
Restarting
Removing all the devices
but none of this works.
If I remove the failed devices from Windows and connect an old SSD it works, but the disk drive does not.
Is there anything I can do? Is it likely the USB adapter or the disk drive that is the issue?
Thanks!
WH14NS40 not working with Unitek Y-1039
Re: WH14NS40 not working with Unitek Y-1039
Did you ever figure this out? I ask because I am seeing the same issue with the same Unitek device and a LG Electronics WH16NS40.
Re: WH14NS40 not working with Unitek Y-1039
I realize now that the Unitek Y-1039 doesn't work for optical drives. Not sure where I got the impression it did or maybe things changed. Anyhow, I ordered a Unitek Y-3324A last night -- hopefully it works!

Re: WH14NS40 not working with Unitek Y-1039
I believe Unitek changed to a different chip in the unit a couple of years ago, making it no longer compatible with optical drives. Thus it was removed from the list in the UHD guide back then.
Cheers

@MartyMcNuts
I must have found an old post that talked about using the 1039 model not realizing things had changed.
@Cooopervid
Thanks for the suggestion, but I already bought an open-box Unitek Y-3324A on eBay for $15.
