Trying to rollback my LG WH16NS40 1.05 drive to read 4K disks, but running into some issues.

I tried following the Haxor manual here using makemkvcon64.exe to flash my drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow

Flash got up to 98% and then said: "Write DRAM NG 05/26/03" and then "Command produced error code 0x8f052603"

And the flash failed, my drive is still on 1.05.



I then tried this method with the UI mode with the file "DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH14NS40_1.02_NS50.bin": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfpf6HoMMis

But then I got this error: "Write DRAM NG 05/26/03"

And my drive is still on 1.05.

Am I missing a step somewhere?

This is happening because your stock 1.05 is an encrypted firmware. Also, you can't go directly to that firmware. My suggestion is to use the SDFtool Flasher (use the search function to find the thread) and:

1. Flash drive to WH16NS40 1.05 MK (from MK firmware folder) with "enc?" checked.

2. Once this first flash has completed, your drive no longer has encrypted firmware, so now you can flash whatever firmware you want to use (with "enc?" unchecked).

Awesome, thank you! I was able to flash to the patched version of 1.05 and now I can read 4K blu rays in Libre Mode. Is there an advantage to switching to 1.02 or is the patched 1.05 the same?

Hello.

I'm walking through Marty's steps outlined in this thread for my WH16NS40 v 1.05 encrypted firmware (July 2020 manufacture date), but cannot find the referenced patched firmware file WH16NS40 1.05 MK in the downloaded MK firmware pack (from the Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2.zip file).

The only WH16NS40 files I can find in that pack are the following:
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211653.bin

Are one of these two above files the modified WH16NS40 1.05 MK file? Or is there another firmware pack that I need to download to get the modified firmware for this drive?
