Hi!
I have followed the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026 and used MartyMcNuts' New! GUI SDF tool
My Drive now shows like this in MakeMKV and appears to be working
Drive Information
OS device name: J:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: N708HS008005
Firmware date: 2118-10-24 19:34
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 68
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
No disc inserted
I do like to also use DVDFab, and DVD Fab now picks up the drive and calls it Unfriendly and offers to use it's UHD Tool to Downgrade Firmware to 1.00. I am wondering if this ok, will it still work between both programs and are there any +/- to doing this?
Sorry to bug and thanks for any help given.

Re: Questions On Flashing BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N
I have never used DVDFab's UHD Tool. I know I personally wouldn't want to risk a faulty flash with it, as while I am 100% sure that flashing with makemkvcon/sdftool/SDFTool Flasher usually works, I have no clue how efficient the other method might be. Back in 2019, I believe mike admin wrote a post about this, strongly advising against using this tool, as it seemed to be unsafe. I do not know whether the tool is still unsafe.I do like to also use DVDFab, and DVD Fab now picks up the drive and calls it Unfriendly and offers to use it's UHD Tool to Downgrade Firmware to 1.00. Regarding the main pros and cons of doing this second flash :
Pros : BU40N 1.00 works well with some non-MakeMKV ripping tools such as DVDFab (and FindVUK if you ever need it). It also has Linux compatibility.
Cons : BU40N 1.03MK seems to be better for some hard-to-read disks.
If you wish to proceed, you have a nice DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin file that's very easy to flash in Marty's All You Need Firmware Pack if you want to use SDFTool Flasher again - just do a regular WRITE, the "encrypted firmware" box is likely to be unticked, leave it that way.
