Buying a new ASUS BW-16D1HT- firmware traps?

Hello, I already had the same drive, and as I wrote in a different thread, it seems to have died on me.

Now I want to buy a new one. Do you know if I need to look out for something? If I buy a new one today, is it possible that there is a firmware on it that will not allow me to flash libredrive on it?
I read here in a thread where someone asked if they should stay on 3.0 or switch to 3.10. The answer was to stay on 3.0.
So, what if mine comes with 3.1? Can I still flash libredrive on it?

I got mine a few years ago and am not up do date.

All LG and Asus drive on the list currently can and will need to be flashed unless bought from a seller
