PIONEER BDR-BDS7S not reading UHD disks

Post by Edward1017 »

I recently purchased a Pioneer BDR-BDS7S drive to read UHD BluRays. The drive was listed as being libredrive compatible on the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2023" and I made sure to get one with an older firmware. However, whenever I insert a UHD disc into the drive, it spins up and down for a minute and then ejects the disc.

Here is the drive info from MakeMKV. I am on Ubuntu 22.4.

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07
Revision: 1.00
Firmware date: 2019-01-07
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8E20
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS7
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Is my drive incompatible with UHD discs in some way or is there something wrong with my drive?

Libredrive enabled does not mean UHD capable and that Pioneer drive is not a UHD drive model.
Cheers :D

Is there a reason the drive is incompatible with UHD discs? The drives spec sheet shows it being capable of reading up to quad layer BluRays and there are others selling this drive as UHD capable (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=17831).
If this model is incapable of reading UHD discs, do you know which models are?

That drive is not listed in the guide the UHD version is it would need to be flashed and for now you can't do that
