In your experience, what's the most effective BD and 4K UHD reading drive for ripping?

Post by TheMKVMaker »

I'm seriously considering the Verbatim Slim 4K Drive - https://www.amazon.com.au/Verbatim-Exte ... B07MTP9VKX

The only thing that I'm concerned about is how fast it can rip Blu-rays and 4K UHDs, especially in contrast to other drivers.

What is your experience like with these drivers?

For most people, the question would be "does it read disks?"

It has a Pioneer BDR-UD04 in the enclosure. You can go for it.

Yeah I've read some posts, albeit older (2020/2021) that specify the Pioneer BDR-UD04 as not being effective at ripping $k UHDs.

Mike started support of Pioneer drives much later. Start reading here:

And see ripping speeds in this guide:

Interesting - does that mean that other dvd ripping programs can utilize this drive or is it only MakeMKV that is the exception?
