Sorry if this is considered a cross post. I have an UHD drive returning hash errors ala this error classification notice: https://www.makemkv.com/errors/hashcheck/ Is that always considered the kiss of death for the drive or could it be something else? The drive is the WH16NS60 in a Vantec case.

Clean the disc
Replace the disc
Clean the drive by taking it apart not those cleaning discs
Replace drive with BU40N or BP60NB10

So it ripped fine on the second try. Didn't even cycle the drawer.
Anyplace with instructions on taking the drive apart?
I will look into a new drive.
Is this a definitely a drive problem though?

Yeah I posted it somewhere how to take them apart it's easy 4 screws on the bottom.

It's not for sure a drive problem could be the disc or dirty laser if you put dusty discs in

Occasionally getting an error reading a disc does not imply, in my view, that the drive is nearly dead. I have multiple drives, but I use the first drive I got, a WH16NS60, most of the time (out of habit I guess). On the occasions when it has trouble reading a disc, I try one of my other drives and more often than not, they read the disc without error. In fact, earlier this week, my WH16NS60 got a hash check error reading a triple layer BD100 UHD. I tried the disc next in a Pioneer drive and it read it just fine. Every subsequent disc I've put in the WH16NS60 has worked. Some discs and drives just don't get along well together. I've never experienced it personally, but I think if a drive is about to die it'll get read errors more often than not and probably one day it'll stop being able to read discs all together.
