Not sure what this drive is. What is the model?
Here's an Amazon link, has pictures of the serials etc.

Hitachi-LG BP55 External Blu-Ray Drive, USB 2.0 Slim Portable Player/Rewriter for Laptop, Desktop PC, Windows 11 Compatible, with TV Connectivity, 3D Playback, 8x Read/Write Speed - Black https://amzn.eu/d/0aUDePF

It's flashable to my knowledge just not sure what the correct firmware is.
That's a BP55EB40. If you said that, I would have known what it was. The recommended firmware is BU40N 1.00, which will work with all popular ripping software. The flashing process may differ, depending on how new the drive is. It should have a SVC code written underneath and also on the side of the box where the model / manufacture date is. Let me know the manufacture date and the SVC code and I can advise further,
My bad - Manufactured May 2023 SVC is EB52.

You can follow the same process as the BP50NB40 SVC NB52 in the first post. I think there's a BP55EB40 1.03-MK firmware in either my firmware pack or the MK firmware pack, use it instead of the BP50NB40 1.03-MK firmware. Use the BU40N 1.00 firmware as your final firmware in the recovery step.
Cheers :D

Swing and a miss but at least I didn't brick the drive. I used the 1.03MK that is in the MK pack and then applied the basic BU40N 1.00 (even though there are higher versions). Reads blus still but not 4K UHDs. Note that the BU40N is from your pack as MK doesnt have 1.00 - have I crossed the streams by using Firmwares from 2 different packs?

DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin - there is a DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin but Marty said to use 1.00

You haven't done the second part of the process.

In SDFtool Flasher, select your drive, select recovery option, in the popup, select the BP55 firmware that you have already flashed to the drive, in the firmware drop down, select the BU40N 1.00 firmware and click START.
Cheers :D

Dammit I missed the popup part and the fact that you had to point it to the burnt firmware. All works perfectly now - thank you so much for the support! I'm normally more technical than this :)

I have an Archgon MD-8107-U3 that MakeMKV sees as
Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.01
Serial number: MOCJ7AG3720
Firmware date: 2117-12-22 12:21
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 72

I downloaded the new SDFTool flasher and I just have a question on the image to use... From the All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts) pack I see 2 .bin files that I could use
  • DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin
  • DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin
Not sure which one to use to flash. I read on a threat about this very drive with the exact revision and firmware that either could be used...
Any thoughts?

Thank you in advanced!!!!

As your drive is on older unencrypted firmware, you should be able to directly flash to BU40N 1.00. It is the recommended firmware and works with all popular ripping software.

Worked! Thanks!
I purchased MakeMKV a while back but would still love to donate to the project.... How would one do that?

[SOLVED] Re: SDFtool Flasher

Post by MikeReloaded »

I downloaded and tried the SDFtool and I get a .net exception error on any machine when I try to use it. I am up to date on all the different updates of .net.

I have searched and not found anything here. Is anyone else experiencing this?

[Found out I needed to have the MakeMKV installed also for it to not have that error I mentioned. It does say MakeMKV is a requirement in the tutorial, but doesn't say that the firmware update tool won't run without it.]

Of course it won't run without it!! SDFTool Flasher is a "frontend GUI" for MakeMKV's built in command line.
