Hello Coopervid
Firstly as a "non recipient" of your assistance to the very many on this thread who have benefitted from your help in Libre enabling their drives I congratulate you for what you have done and are doing..
I am fairly new to this forum and have always wanted to use an Pioneer Optical Drive.
Simply put they work better and build quality superior to LG and its variants that can be flashed using the Tool and software available on this forum.
I can purchase one at an affordable price on Amazon however it comes with the dreaded FW 1.05 which renders it useless for using it with Makemkv.
I have searched through the threads and other than purchasing one from persons on this forum that have been already flashed I have read that flashing the "current online Pioneer drives " can't be done.
This is a contradiction in logic.
I purchased a Pioneer on Amazon ie Pioneer S13J-X a quality optical drive. Manufacture date December 2023.
It couldn't be used om Makemkv to rip a 4K video.
Told by learned posters on this forum that it can't be flashed.
I opt for the cheap rubbish LG drive that can be flashed using the tools on this forum.
It lasted a month. Luckily still under return warranty.
My nephew buys the same Pioneer drive above (Pioneer S13J-X) with same manufacture date (December 2023)from a recommended seller and low and behold the FW is 1.02 and it's Libre enable and he is ripping 4K videos.
So how is this so?
It begs the question "Is there a solution out there?"
I believe there is.
I am more than happy to follow my nephews path as I have aleady done as I am willing to pay the premium for a quality drive.
If someone who has "cracked the code" wants to be financially compensated for his or her efforts I am all in favour of that 100%.
Buying the Pioneer enabled drive above is my recognition of this from a recommended seller on this forum.
But to those on this forum who have said it can't be done.
Well ......please don't infer it can't be done.
This is why those who have benefitted from Coopervid's efforts should always be grateful to him.

Re: Pioneer BDR-UD03 UHD possibility
May I kindly also inquire about the availability of the Pioneer BDR 13 within Europe/Belgium, or to Japan/Taiwan that should be LibreDrive compatible?
The item no longer seems to be listed on Amazon Germany, but there are still some available on Amazon Japan.
Pioneer BDR-S13J-X (SATA)

Pioneer BDR-X13J-X (USB C / USB A)
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0CNGJ12HR
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0CM6JN9JH
If purchased through Amazon, I wonder if any of the above models are also possible to be made LibreDrive compatible, or is it still preferred to purchase a pre-installed one through the forums after all?
Grateful for your continued guidance.

Re: Pioneer BDR-UD03 UHD possibility
Most likely those drives have new firmware and can't be flashed for UHD. In Japan there is an IOData drive that is essentially a 212. This can be flashed. IODATA BRD16 QX. In Europe buy the Vinpower 212V. Can also be flashed.rayanamukami wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 10:11 pmMay I kindly also inquire about the availability of the Pioneer BDR 13 within Europe/Belgium, or to Japan/Taiwan that should be LibreDrive compatible?

Re: Pioneer BDR-UD03 UHD possibility
Hi, I also have this drive with firmware revision 1.14. Can I get the updated firmware for UHD please? Also, is this new firmware for another drive? Or is it an altered version of the original firmware?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Pioneer BDR-UD03 UHD possibility
Hi Coopervid,
I've seen all your efforts you have done over the last years here regarding the UHD upgrade to the BD-RW BDR-UD03 and I have to thank you in advance for that. Unbelievable how someone can put so much patience and effort into that.
Anyway, I have ordered the Verbatim 43890 from Amazon in Germany, as it was promoted as UHD drive, just to figure out, that it is not working with my UHD discs.
I'd highly appreciate it if you could help me as well.
