I've a BE16NU50 for a cousin in progress.
It have originaly the firmware BE16NU50 1.00 installed and it works OOTB with it.

My cousin want to use MakeMKV or DVDFab, first he want to test both of the tools. Has the original firmware the same quality like the WH16NS60 1.00?

Edit: Ok, speeding up is very low. Only 4.8x after 18 minutes...

I'm new to the forum. I've been using Makemkv primarily for my Blu-rays to back them up to an external hard drive. It's always worked great so far.

However, I want to switch to 4k UHD soon and so my question is:

Is this generally possible with my BR drive "Techpulse 120" BD-XL M-Disc and 4K UHD is written on the front?

Do I have to flash this first? How do I go about this? Unfortunately, my English skills are a bit poor.

Thank you for your help and I hope I'm in the right post.

Yes, it has to be flashed to enable libredrive as it is a requirement for UHD readability.

It's easy to do. Just follow the guide. Your drive is a LG BU40N. Flash it to BU40N 1.03-MK and you're all set.
Cheers :D

I got the LG WH16NS40 Flashed with WH16NS60 Firmware v1.02, very simple yet it performs at it should, Have done only few rips but I will report back if I find any issues with it, but so far so good.

Bought an LG BH16NS40, FW 1.05, SVC CODE NS51, manufacturing date 2024 October

Now I cannot find this drive in post#1 exactly but reading viewtopic.php?t=25901
I see user had success with flashing HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin

1 - can I somehow backup the current FW which I can restore in case of issues? or restore is not fully possible?
2 - since that success story is from 2022 perhaps my current 1.05 is a different 1.05, also my drive is a different BH16NS40, possible?
3 - thank you :)

Show your MakeMKV drive information.
But I think you can flash directly to WH16NS60 1.02MK.

Edit:
Sorry I've read your model wrong. Of course is the BH16NS40 with NS51 flashable.

You don't need a firmware backup. With the original LG firmware auto updater you can get your drive back to 1.05.
