I flashed both my BU40N and my WH16NS60 over usb, using vantec enclosures
So the USB cable that comes with the enclosure and that's it? What flasher needs to be used with this?
I desperately need to be able to dump the firmware off one of these BP60NB10s, get it cleaned, and get these fuckers working. They've been gathering dust for months. Thank you.

Both the LG and the ASUS flashers can be a bit picky with some enclosures & SATA / USB adapter cables though, so you may get an error. It's worth a try though. If the flashing works then Mike's MK firmware is all you need for this drive (assuming it is UHD friendly?).
Let us know how you go!
PS: There is still no way other than DOSFLASH to dump a firmware though. I assume Mike extracted the firmware from the official LG BP60NB10 flasher and made his modifications to it.
Cheers

I need to get confirmation from him that the initial dump and cleaning has been done. That’s been on my list of things to do for awhile and I’ve got 5 of these bad boys to sell.
I've read allot on the forum ... probably too much ... and am confused about what belongs where. (Would "archiving" the obsolete/old-info/wrong-info threads help?)
So, where do I stand with this (from the slim-drive label):
HL Data Storage (Hitachi-LG) UHD Blu-ray / DVD Rewriter
ROM ver: 0415
model: BU50N
[barcode] RoHS
manufactured: May 2016
Is there (official?) software to give other needed information from this drive?
Thanks for any direction in this.

Hmm, this is a tough one. Is there a service code printed on the sticker on this drive? Actually no, if it says UHD Blu Ray it's gotta be the right generation. So firmware for the BU40N, version 1.00, either DE or MK will work on this drive. And that would be located in the first response here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 19&t=19113
There may be firmware for the BU50N as well in there.
I looked and that firmware pack by mike admin does have BU50N in it. And the modified LG Flasher that may help is well-buried in the drive.google link in this post:
Thanks guys!
[I'm pleased to discover I had noted-to-self your recommended threads ... and flagged the right firmware (for BU50N), but wrong updater (ASUS), from other threads.]
Now just run updater "BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched", load the proper firmware "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU50N-1.00-NM00100-211711211006.bin" for the "DE" patch & MMKV updates ... and that's it in a single step? Excellent!
Is there any need (here) for this firmware version? Or if I need to restore the drive to it's original firmware, is one available (anywhere)?
As I couldn't find my original firmware online (so far), to restore it in case something is needed from it in my day-to-day operations, I thought to test this on same-make-model-year, but flaky, drive. And it worked perfectly! Thanks again for the guidance, guys! If I can find my original firmware "0420" and can apply it back to the drive, that would be awesome ... and I'd immediately downgrade my good drive.
Unfortunately I couldn't further test it with MakeMKV as it's flakiness interfered with reading a UHD disc (same problem it always had with standard DVDs & Blu-rays).

You could use the old dosflash method to extract your firmware if you have the system requirements (and any required adapters).

I do have an old system (I think IDE was the key to using that method, from what I've noticed in browsing) ... but must do some digging to get it setup. Is there a best & fool-proof & up-to-date procedure, with step-by-step instructions, here?
