Same way my old drive was hooked up. I unhooked my original and plugged in the new drive using that same sata cables and power cables. I'm not using a usb adaptor like what was posted in the first post.
This happened also with the Asus drive the other day.

I've always been hesitant of buying from Amazon for this very reason. Thankfully my local Micro Center, the only store in my area that sells friendly drives, had the last WH16NS40 in stock. They have other Asus drives but who knows if exchanging them would be worth it. At this point I feel that if two different drives are giving the exact same problems exchanging for a new one would give the same result. I even cleaned the discs. I would buy new copies of the movies but feel I would get the same results with those too and couldn't get my money back. With the drives I could exchange for the same model or maybe get my money back.

So I tried flashing other drives to my WH16NS40 and The Last Jedi loaded and started coping until 2 seconds left and failed. At this point I say I have bad copies of Endgame, TLJ, Guarians of the Galaxy vol.2, and Kingsmen. Hey at least it's only a small number out of the 30+ 4K movies I have.

Hi guys, can I buy the Asus BW-16D1H external burner?
Or do I have to buy the Asus BW-16D1H internal burner?

So to clarify, I have a brand new LG WH16NS40 with firmware version 1.04. The sticker on the drive says "SVC CODE: NS50" and manufactured September 2019.

Please confirm:
  1. I need to use the BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe tool to flash the drive with the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS55-1.04-NM01701-211901041342.bin firmware.
  2. And then I need to use the same tool to flash it to the DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin firmware.
Is that all correct?

nah flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
and be done with it you fix not being able to downgrade you get faster ripping and no sleepbug

I thought if it had firmware version 1.04, you had to do a sidegrade first before you could do a downgrade?

1.02mk WH16NS60 is the equivalent of side grading and no need for downgrade if you use makemkv

Ahh, I see now. I thought side-grading/cross-flashing just meant flashing an LG drive with an Asus firmware or an Asus drive with an LG firmware. I went ahead and just flashed my drive straight to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin and it worked like a charm. I've already successfully been able to rip a few 4K UHD and regular blu-rays in MakeMKV with it. Thanks!
