My 2017 Asus BW-16D1HT successfully ripped about 70 UHD disks since last year, but the triple-layered UHD Black Hawk Down wouldn’t rip, saying drive or disk was bad. I had read that my drive had issues with triple layers, so I bought a new LG WH16NS60 and downgraded it to FW 1.00 using Billy’s video instructions.

Well, Black Hawk Down wouldn’t rip on the LG after going about 40%. Frustrated, I got another copy of the movie and it still wouldn’t rip. :|

I read somewhere on the Forum that HK might be a little more friendly to triple layers. Thus, is it possible to change the LG from DE to HK? If so, how?

MK FWs are typically latest/greatest for a particular drive with microcode access re-enabled. Whether it "might be a little more friendly to triple layers", or not, depends largely on what the latest/greatest was supposed to fix (mfgr FW release notes). All compiled UHD info here:

Thanks, but I can't find anything in the links provided that deal with my specific question, (or I am too ignorant to recognize them).

I already downgraded my LG WH16NS60 to FW 1.00, but I want to try MK in hopes of improving 3 layer rip results. Can I simply flash the appropriate MK file, or do I first have to revert back to FW 1.01 (if possible)?

Thanks, I just switched over to "MK" and no improvement. Two UHD disks and two different drives and still can't rip. :|

Hi All,
I just purchased an LG BH-16NS55 with firmware version 1.04. I was wondering if;
A) I have not seen any reference to this firmware version, should I make a backup before I flash to 1.02? Do I need to do this anyway?
B) Has anyone with version 1.04 flashed their drive successfully?
C) Will the LG flasher (N1.00-A4) tool work with this firmware version (attached screenshot) or is there a better tool?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you all.
:-)

Hello,
I'm having trouble with the LG BH16NS55. I start the application and choose my bin file, but after clicking start, it gives me and error. The drive is still in working order after. Any help is appreciated.

You need to provide additional information.

What is the exact error being presented?

What is happening exactly?

This is an online forum. Simply saying “it does not work” does not help. We are not sitting next to you nor are we mind readers. Help us help you.

hello thank you for replying- i think the error is Write DRAM NG i watched the youtube video (latest) downloaded the installer I chose my bin. It does not go to percentage complete- as soon as I press play it comes up with this error. The drive is installed in the computer, i even tried the Asus firmware installer with the correct bin, still no luck. Like i said the drive is still in working order. Thank you

Please provide some details. Simply saying that is of no help at all. Let's start with...

1. What OS are you using?
2. What firmare does your drive have? If it is 1.04, you must flash ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK first, then you can flash whatever firmware you like.
3. What flashing tool are you using?
4. What error are you getting?
5. How is your drive connected to your PC?
6. Do you have any other software running that uses the drive (MakeMKV, AnyDVD or any other disc accessing software)?

Cheers.
Cheers :D

Hello,

Thanks for all of the great work people have done on this.

I have a BU40N which came flashed with FW 1.0.3.

I have connected the drive to my laptop via a USB - Slimline SATA adapter (in case that makes a difference)
I am running Windows 10 X64 Pro

I have tried to follow the YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfpf6HoMMis

I downloaded the Downgrade Enabled Firmware with Unlocked Flasher:
https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Ffile%2Fd%2F102V7DUp45TkU-mYgu992F3NHLNEmeZTN%2Fview%3Fusp%3Dsharing

I run the flasher as Administrator
Flasher detects my drive and current FW version correctly :)
I browse for the relevant FW: DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin
I press the flash button
I get the error
Write DRAM NG
05/26/03

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks Billycar11,

I've downloaded the 1.03 MK firmware from the second thread you shared

I will change my setup in that I will connect the BU40N directly to the SATA port (not via USB)

Am I correct in thinking that I should flash to 1.03 MK and then to the 1.00 FW?

Also - what does MK mean - see the term everywhere but not the full meaning.

Thanks again.

they all have the downgrade enabled so all you need to do is download this and the unlocked flasher and then choose the file for your drive. This works with SATA AHCI/RAID, IDE, and over USB!!

Big thanks to
