usb to sata adapters?

#1 Post by thetoad » Sun May 12, 2019 7:17 pm

Anyone know of any usb to sata adapters (externally provided power most likely) that work with desktop optical drives?

I got a cheap one from ebay that has a 12v input and it works with my desktop sata hard disks (so its not a loss, and for under $1 after ebay coupon was willing to risk it), but doesn't seem to work with my optical drives (i.e. the drive powers on, I can eject the tray...) but its never detected by either windows or linux. wondering if its due to usb not providing enough amps on the 5v rail.

thoughts?

Does the WEme do the firmware flash ok? Lots of complaints for the Unitek on amazon. Hmm...

I have 2 x Unitek Y-1034 and have flashed a heck of a lot of drives with them and have had absolutely no issues at all.

Sorry, I had to re-register, I wasn't getting the email address change. Anyway, I may try one of each even though they look identical. I agree about usb, why don't all HDs and ODDs have USB only connectors now? Sooner or later it will change but to what?

Marty -
The Unitek Y-1034 does not come with a power cable, how do you power up your ODDs?

Hi MartyMcNuts. To clarify, the Unitek Y-1034 USB 3.0 to Sata is the same model in this page? https://www.amazon.com/Unitek-Adapter-C ... B06WWLCYC3
And you can flash any 4K uhd friendly drive using this Unitek Y-1034?

That doesn't look like mine. The link you provided is for the Y-1099. Perhaps this is a newer model?

Mine look like this:

It seems to be getting harder and harder to get. I think it may have been discontinued.

I'm also tempted to purchase a Y-3322 or Y3324 to try.

Unitek Y-3322 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EHDTRJ6/ref=emc_b_5_t

Unitek Y-3324 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAUIA6G/ref=emc_b_5_t
Cheers :D

Thanks MartyMcNuts for the confirmation. I normally read first the buyers' reviews before making purchases. Like the UGreen USB3 to eSATA doesn't work with optical drives and only works on HDs or SSDs.
