Hi to all
I am a new member to this forum and found it while trying to get my Asus drive to rip a 4k disk.
Apologies if the info I need already exists on here but I am no computer expert and have read many posts on downgrading firmware and the process seems above my capability however I have had my BW-16D for many years and have used it successfully many times with regular HD disks, its firmware is 1.01
I expect my firmware needs upgrading not down, Can anyone please assist and let me know if it is something possible for a non expert to attempt to do?
Many thanks
Asus BW-16D
Re: Asus BW-16D
If you have read the many threads on Asus disks, you would know that:
The hardware Asus calls their "16-series" drives includes many different drives - some can do BDXL (the basis for UHD), most cannot.
Age of the drive a key - any drive manufactured prior to 2015 isn't going to work, drives made IN 2015 are hit and (mostly) miss, and 2016 and later depends upon which model.
Getting your complete model number and its manufacturing date is key to answering your question. The majority of this is displayed in the Info window of MakeMKV before you load a disk.

Re: Asus BW-16D
Thanks for the reply and point taken, I had tried to find the info before asking but was working on the premise that all the BW-16D's were UHD capable.
Mine was manufactured in Jan 14 so it wont be any good.
I will try to source a new one here in the UK and hopefully one that will work out of the box with no modifications needed.

How do I find my firmware version for my Asus BW-16D, in Windows 10?

Re: Asus BW-16D
Yep, as above, if the drive is manufactured before "late 2015+" then it is no good for UHD. Also if the unit has fw 1.xx on it, which most of the early 2015 models do, then it is too old.
I think it's around October 2015 that the newer "UHD Friendly" model began, which had fw 3.00 on it.
