If I do that then the drive doesn't read 4Ks or blu ray discs. With BP50 it at least still reads blu ray discs. Do you know what went wrong? I followed the steps exactly and even watched the tutorial video on the first page of this post.

You should be doing this:

WP/BP50NB40 to > BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK then to > BP60NB10 1.02MK or 1.00MK

I did that but when I flashed to 1.00 my drive wouldn't even read blu ray or 4K. I got it to read blu ray again when flashed back to 1.01. You think I should try flashing to 1.02?

I have an LG WH16NS40 drive (rev 1.05), version 1.17.4 of MakeMKV installed. I am trying to run SFDtool Flasher and I get a Microsoft .NET error of Unhandled exception. If I continue past the error the app loads but the select drive box is blank. MakeMKV sees the drive correctly as a MT1959 platform. I am running Windows 11. Is the error because of Win11?

Hi everyone! I ran into the same issue as Lazarus. The solution is straightforward—just download the latest version of MakeMKV and install it with administrator permissions. That fixed the problem for me.

I spent almost two hours getting it to work, and I can confirm the issue (and the fix) applies to both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

but getting error message "the drive you have selected does not have the correct platform (MT1959) and cannot be flashed
i have tried with stand alone file "DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin.zip" but still getting same error messsage
i have attached screenshot

From the flashing guide :

1. Make sure your Drive was built after 2016 on label or late 2015 if you want to risk it.
2. Drive Platform MT1959<Most important in makemkv
3. SVC NS50+ LG only on label for NB drives NB50+
4. Just because your drive is the same model number does not mean it will work, if you are unsure ask me i offer remote flashing and check everything before i flash.
5. Dont flash your dive if it does not meet these requirements if you do you will be unable to read all disks and unable to restore without dosflash that does not work on most modern computers

The screenshot you posted shows that your drive platform is MT1939. I believe you most certainly shouldn't attempt to flash it.

Next time you attempt to flash an LG drive, please be sure to read *all* of Billycar11's guide, not just the first post in the SDFtool Flasher thread : viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634

If someday you should get another LG WH16NS40, one that's actually "flashable" (because seriously, do *not* attempt to flash your current drive), I should point out that this wasn't even the correct firmware file, as far as I know. Again, please see Billy's guide above.

This drive is too old (pre 2016) and has the old, incompatible MT1939 drive platform. It can never be flashed nor be made UHD capable. Don't even try, you WILL brick it!!

SDFtool flasher did it's job and advised you that it is the wrong drive platform and cannot be flashed.

Thank you Marty for all your help here! I have downloaded the SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6, but it isn't displaying correctly, so I'm not sure if I should try to proceed with flashing my BH16NS58 (inside Buffalo enclosure). Here's what I see... I can't see the green checkmarks. Hopefully it's OK? I previously had text scaling at 150% in Windows 11, but I put it back to default after seeing this problem, but it didn't make a difference. Sorry, I would have sent this to you in a private message, but I'm a new member and I don't see any link/button.

EDIT: I found the answer after I re-read the instructions in the first post. Sorry, my bad!

"NOTE: If the GUI looks a bit deformed (happens on a 4k monitor), you can right click the exe and select properties. In the compatibility tab, click "Change high DPI settings" then under "High DPI scaling override" tick the box and select "System (Enhanced)" in the dropbox."

EDIT: Nevermind. After doing testing and some research, I found even though my drive is marked with a new date it has the MT1939 drive platform. Also, it has the original firmware. So I'm going to return it and hope I can get a drive that is actually newer.

So I bought a ASUS BW-16D1HT about a week ago after seeing it recommended for its price to performance and being able to read 4K UHD disc. It is dated on the drive to 2026 March 09. However, it does not recognize my 4K disc of Ghost in the Shell (I have not test other UHDs) and when I run the flasher it says it is not MT1959 platform. The drive should have version 3.0 of the firmware.
Just posting hear if there is anything I can do before I return the drive. I know this is an issue with older drives, has anyone had this problem with newer drives? The product page didn't say anything about the chipset that is used (not surprising), but does mention that the drive should play UHDs and is suppose to come with some UHD software that I don't seam to have gotten the code for.

So it looks like the seller lied about updating the drives to firmware version 3.0. But more confusingly this says it is drive platform MT1959 even though the flasher says it is not.

It doesn't matter. If you want UHD support you need MT1959 (although AFAIK there's no 3.xx firmware for MT1939 either).

What are you referring to by "this"? Coz the LibreDrive Information you quoted has "Drive platform: MT1939".

Also, no idea what is up with the firmware date.

It's normal. Most if not all firmware of "LG drives" does not bear a real date. (Maybe it can be derived to a real date in some way but at least not real in its literal form.)

Btw if you want to avoid more failed attempts in getting an MT1959 one, you may want to try confirming whether what you get would have "flat top with four dimples" instead of a "circular top". The latter is at least much less likely to be one.
