Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’ve had verbatim drive for quite a while now and I’ve gone through two drives and with both drives, I was able to flash them both to 1.03. But it won’t read any 4K disc that I have. I’ve tested at least 10 to 12 different discs on both drives and the same outcome and message appears. “ the volume key is unknown for this disc - video can’t be decrypted “
I was wondering if anybody can point me to a certain thread or direction on what I’m doing wrong. It reads DVDs and Blu-rays and music CDs perfectly fine but for some reason, following all the instructions and having it on firmware 1.03 causes it not to do anything with the 4K discs.
I’ve included three screenshots if that can help anyone diagnose the issue.
Thank you in advance.

Most likely a HK download issue. MakeMKV needs internet access to be able to download the HK database containing the UHD discs decryption keys. Does your log window say anything about HK downloads being disabled? It usually appears right after line "Downloading latest HK to ....."bori787 wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2026 9:13 amHello. The HK is downloaded from Russia so your PC may be geo-blocking Russia. You would have to resolve that or you can try running MakeMKV through a VPN.
Since you are on Windows, you can also download SamuraiHL's KeyDB helper tool which updates and copies the public KeyDB to MakeMKV's data directory. This is an additional key resource that MakeMKV can use. The link for this tool should be in the first post of the Public KeyDB Disc Submissions thread.
Also, why is your MakeMKV data directory set to Onedrive? That may cause issues. It really should be local and probably left at the default C:\Users\....\.MakeMKV
Cheers

Re: 43888 Not Reading 4k Discs
I don't think OP has their makemkv directory saved to onedrive. this is a windows thing where they probably are using their microsoft account to sign in so onedrive is installed and the OS tries to get people to use onedrive. my computer has the same folder structure and I have never had any issues. I keep wanting to blow up my computer and start over to get around the onedrive set up but I just been too lazy to do it.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2026 11:56 pmMost likely a HK download issue. Re: 43888 Not Reading 4k Discs
Thank you so much for the reply, I truly appreciate it. I will definitely look into the logs again and see if that does pop up. I do have Russia blocked on the router level so I will make sure to unblock them and see if that will help.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2026 11:56 pmMost likely a HK download issue. Re: 43888 Not Reading 4k Discs
I fixed the issue, it was the OneDrive. Again, I thank you and appreciate it. Just glad that was the only cause and now it has been resolved.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2026 11:56 pmMost likely a HK download issue.
