Correct firmware for Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B

Post by GoodMovieLove »

Does anybody know the correct firmware to flash a Buffalo BRXL-PUS6U3B to?

Here's the drive info from MMKV:
Drive Information
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: BUFFALO
Product: Optical Drive
Revision: BN14
Firmware date: 2121-06-21 13:33
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 36

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
From this post the LG_BU40N_1.03_MK should work. But, I'm curious how anybody would know for sure. There are no firmware files that have an obviously matching filename.

treat it as a BU40N see guide below for flow chart

or if you want a automated flasher that does it all for you

Look at the list of encrypted firmwares from the flashing guide :

"HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BN14"

That's probably how people know.

Also, I happen to own one of these drives and I successfully flashed DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK onto it. However, because I am using it with both MakeMKV on Linux and DVDFab on Windows, I then flashed it to the original 1.00 version of the BU40N firmware in Marty's pack (doing this seems to make your drive compatible with both Linux and DVDFab on Windows).

NOTE : You shouldn't attempt to flash 1.00 directly. If you wish to proceed as I did, flash DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK with encryption from the All You Need Firmware Pack, then flash DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 without encryption from that same pack. (No need to do a rawflash full or Recover or bootloader flash or anything like that, if you're using the command line a rawflash main, enc, slim for 1.03MK then a rawflash main, slim for 1.00 should do the trick.)

If you wish to flash on Linux, you will likely need to use version 1.17.7 (the last known compatible version for flashing I believe) or version 1.17.6 (the last known stable build IIRC?) of MakeMKV (flashing appears to be broken on Linux with the more recent versions of MakeMKV). Just to clarify, I have had virtually no issues with using more recent versions of MakeMKV on Linux for non-flashing endeavors (such as dumping discs).

Thanks, Billycar11 and Sayaka!

The "BN14" helps tie things together. And as you mentioned it looks like there isn't an MK firmware for the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BN14 so I need to sidegrade to BU40N 1.03MK, as stated by the guide and the SDFtool.

And links to the 1.03MK firmware can be found on those same pages (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin or DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin).

You're welcome ! Also, yes, the sidegrade is pretty much necessary.

If you choose to keep the 1.03MK for Windows, I've heard it might make things somewhat easier when it comes to some hard-to-read discs compared to the 1.00 firmware... Although personally I found the BRXL-PUS6U3B to be the best optical drive I've ever had by a pretty big margin, to the point that I didn't even need to clean my discs with a slightly damp microfiber cloth (which was almost always necessary with my BP55EB40 SVC EB52, even with most brand new Blu-ray discs !)

EDIT : In case anyone cares, I've just tried a diff on Linux with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin and DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin. I don't think it matters much when it comes to which one you choose to flash, as the files seem to be exactly the same aside from the name...
