Replacment Drive

Post by javierdlopez »

Looking for some advice here.

I've gone through two Archgon MD-8107-u3 drives over the last 4 years or so. First one lasted me maybe a year and half, second one lasted 2.5. Eventually it fails reading any discs. Meanwhile, I happen to be in a goodwill and found an LG BP60NB10 (April 2021) date on the back. Can't flash the LG, I suspect it's newer stock or whatever. Been using the LG to rip regular BRs and CDs. But out of business with 4Ks. Hoping to buy something more reliable. Not even sure if the new Archgon drives can be flashed or not at this point. I'd be find buying an internal, if it's more reliable, but would have to go into an enclosure since i have to drive bays on my PC.

What are my options at this point? Ebay has a ton of Pioneer BDR-S12JX/212, but not sure what the risks are involved with buying a drive there. If they'll even do what i want them to do... Ideas?
