Weird.

The BU40N has not the same power issue like the Pioneer BDR-UD03 / UD04. Which USB port do you use?

I don't know about another flashing related solution. Perhaps Marty can help.

The MakeMKV drive information before the first flash could be useful. But you've made no copy of the origin screen, I assume?

Nothing really helps,

I can't reflash the drive anymore. At least it still reads regular Blu-rays, so it's not completely dead yet.
Is it possible that the drive is having problems because it's not getting enough power via USB?
Then regular Blu-rays would probably have the same problems, right?

I'm at a loss, I'll probably have to return it, it's only 3 days old.
Unfortunately, you can't tell from the outside which drive you're getting.
Please post again the Makemkv info so we can see the current status of the drive.

A drive is in the house, with no changes from me.
Laufwerksinformation

OS-Gerätename: D:
Aktuelles Profil: BD-ROM
Produzent: HL-DT-ST
Produkt: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.05
Serienummer: MO8P7MB0951
Firmware-Datum: 2124-04-23 13:47
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

Disk-Informationen
Label: NO_TIME_TO_DIE
Zeitstempel: 2021-10-13 19:22:58
Schutz: AACS2.0/C v76
Datenkapazität: 92.16 Gb
Disk-Typ: BD-ROM UHD
Anzahl der Layer: 3
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 80

The drive can't read the 4kBD.
The drive can read the regular BD, though.

What are the next steps to take to avoid making any mistakes? Could the problem be that the drive isn't getting enough power from the USB port (I'll also be installing MakeMKV on another computer later), but then it probably wouldn't be able to read regular BDs either, right?

Is this another drive???

Since you are on Windows just flash BU40N 1.03 MK firmware with the SDFTool flasher. Makemkv has to be installed since SDFTool is just a GUI. Drive has to be empty and tray closed!!!
