LG BP55EB40 - flash issue

Post by MFrost »

Hello, I'm a newbie here. I'd like to watch or rip a UHD Blu-ray disc on my drive. I have LG BP55EB40 svc code: EB40, manufactured: november 2016. I tried to flash the firmware, but I got stuck.

Now i got makmkv and I can’t open the drive tray:

I got the identical drive with SVC Code EB52, manufactured November 2024.

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP55EB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:24
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Cross-flashed it with BP60NB10 MK 1.03 firmware.

Looking at both our drive infos, the product on yours is wrong, BD-RE BP50NB40 instead of BD-RE BP55EB40.

Did you perhaps follow the SDFtool Flasher Guide to the letter and got BP50NB40 firmware in the first step instead of BP55EB40 firmware?

I would try flashing with Write and Encrypted the MK BP55EB40-NB50-1.03 firmware to see if this corrects your issue

I managed to flash it to version BD-RE BP55EB40 1.03 as you described, but unfortunately the disc tray still doesn’t open when I press the “eject” button.

Did the eject work before any flashing took place?

Can you eject it by using the small pinhole on the side of the button by carefully inserting a needle or small SIM removal tool?

Also, maybe your old drive does not play nice with the newer firmware.

Maybe looking into the Old folder within the MK firmware pack can yield an older version for your drive model that makes it play along.

Are you using both USB ends of the Y-cable at the same time? Not that it just does not receive enough power from the data connection alone :|

Very curious indeed. How about instead of going for BP55EB40 1.03-MK firmware you try to flash BP50NB40 from the firmware pack instead? Since this one seems to work "vanilla".

EDIT: just saw that with this firmware LibreDrive mode is enabled, soooo just put a disc in and try to decrypt it?

Should not matter too much between sister models which exact firmware is running, as long as you don't brick it. Since eject works and LibreDrive on paper is enabled, just go for a Rip
