Just started ripping movies again since my physical collection has grown over the last 2 years and started adding to my server again. Not sure what has changed in the last 2 years, DVDs and Blu-Rays rip no problem but all of a sudden I can't rip any UHD movies, tried to rip movies I've already ripped and have on my server and they are also showing they are encrypted now and MakeMKV doesn't work now when it did before. I have my drive info here. Did I miss anything in the last 2 years? And also, the movies read and play in VLC no problem, just MakeMKV can't get past encryption which wasn't an issue before.

I updated the keydb.cfg file in the MakeMKV folder and that hasn't helped either. Any feedback would be appreciated as I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking.

can someone update the post for Linux instructions?

The MKV for linux points to 1.18.2 version viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224
But this guide viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634 tells that we must use 1.17.7 version

How we can install 1.17.7 if the only working version is 1.18.2 ?

Hi All,

I recently purchased an ASUS_BW-16D1H-U_E116_DIDL121264WL but when I try to flash it it just says it does not have the correct drive platform.
Did I purchase the wrong device or can someone help me with this please?
Any info or help is much appreciated, thanks a lot in advance!

Kind regards,

Can these things be shucked and installed directly into a PC?

Pretty sure they can. It should be a standard SATA drive inside.

Thanks Marty. Are they:
  • UHD ready;
  • need flashing; or
  • enabled by the SDF.bin update
?

Most likely will need to be flashed with software/firmware available on these forums.

No way to tell for sure until the owner posts their drive MAkeMKV info (Mfg's will change/vary the internal drive mechanism even in the same model USB chassis).

All of this model chassis I've seen have drives that can be flashed for MakeMKV/4K/UHD.

Just checked, and I have the more common US model #/version (may be exact same, if his model came from package tag/barcode) of that drive for sale, pre-flashed. Link to the "For sale" thread in my signature, along with my e-mail address.

EDIT - And yes, they can be removed from the USB chassis & installed in a desktop PC. Remove the back 2 rubber feet, and remove 2 screws. Two shells of the chassis snap apart. Verified on the drives I have for sale.

Thanks,
Frank

Stumbled upon this as I just fired up this machine to back up some BR's. I purchased makeMKV in 2021; it worked well, but I'm now experiencing issues. Looks like the drive in use cannot be flashed. Is this correct? I have been reviewing this, and before I go to eBay, I wanted to check.

If it is unable and you were buying a drive today, what would be the "best"/one to get?

Thank you,

Nope, too old. Manufactured in 2013 and would have the old MT1939 drive platform.

Best one to get is any Pioneer but the world's supply is dwindling fast! If you can't get a Pioneer, the Verbatim 43887 or 43890 as these should contain a Pioneer BDR-UD03 inside that may be able to be cross-flashed to BDR-UD04 firmware for UHD compatibility.
Cheers :D

A compatible drive that is available (all models are becoming more & more scarce).

See the "For Sale" threads in this forum:
Drives for sale, Flashing Services, where to buy...

My drives available for sale are linked in my signature. My e-mail address is also listed there if you are interested in contacting me for one of the drives I have for sale (all are pre-flashed for DVD/Blu-Ray/4K/UHD use with MakeMKV).

Thanks,
Frank

New to the forum.
I have been ripping my Bluray and DVD collection for about a year now and am getting close to done. Running into some discs/series that aren't working.
So, figured it was time to flash the drive and see how it all does after that.
I have the following:

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: DVD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.05
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 13:31
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 72

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

Which firmware should I flash to this drive, and after the initial flash due to encryption, should I flash to a newer firmware?

Thanks in advance!
