Quality of Pioneer UHD models

Post by darthvader »

I have been wondering about the quality differences about Pioneer drives for a while. I already own LG BU40N which gives me checksum errors on 4/10 UHD disks. I ordered a flashed Pioneer BDR-XD08TB few days ago but yet to try it. Those who have multiple Pioneer drives, have you noticed a material difference in ability rip triple layer UHD disks among Pioneer drives?

Are some of them considered premium because of build quality, aesthetics etc but for ripping UHD are they all the same? For example BDR S13UX vs UD04 vs XD07 vs XD08TB.

I haven't noticed any difference regarding ripping on my S11 (crossflashed 209), 2x S12U (crossflahed 212XLT and 212DBK). Only regarding burning the 212DBK has a plastic laser lens vs. glass in the others and the burn quality of multi-layer disc is worse. But nobody should burn anymore anyway and use their Pioneers only for ripping to avoid laser wear.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t plan to burn disks. If I had to, definitely using BU40N for that.
