I came across these Verbatim drives on the shelf at a local store. Is it still possible they have Pioneers drives in them?

Not unless they have had it on the shelf for a year+.
Cheers :D

I mistakenly ordered a 43889, and I have a 43888 on the way. But I heard that it might be possible to rip UHD with an 43889 anyway? Not sure which drives are in them yet.
To give an update, the 43889 that I received contained the usual BU40N. The drive info below is after following the flashing guide and using the correct image from the all you need pack using the GUI on Windows.

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.03
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2118-10-24 19:34
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Regular blu-rays and DVDs worked fine. When I tried a UHD Dune disk it did not work initially. But after loading the latest sdf.bin it worked flawlessly. Would recommend!

Most likely not.
so I decided to roll the dice and went back to the store. the store had a decent return policy on hardware, and lucked out:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-UD03
Revision: 1.14
Serial number: CIDL50****WL
Firmware date: 2020-06-15
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8511
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-US03
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.14
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted
can I please get the info on how to enable UHD read on this drive?

Thank you! I can't reply in PM (guessing I'm too new). I was able to flash the drive.
