Does the BH16NS55 require any specific tweaks other than the firmware flash?

Post by Hayt89 »

Hello,

Sorry if this is an obvious question but just want to make sure I do this right the first time and avoid making a "it's all gone wrong" thread.

I've been following the guide and am about to flash my LG BH16NS55 to "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02" (full file name "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin" taken from the "The all you need firmware pack").

Before I started this process I heard some drives need to have their speed down revved but I can't find any notion of whether or not you need to do this (or anything else) to the LG BH16NS55. Again, apologies if this is really obvious stuff but I'm hoping to avoid damaging my drive or discs.

A bonus question if anyone is feeling generous: is the flashed custom firmware any less "safe" for the drives or discs than the official ones? eg. faster rips means more wear on the blurays etc (please be kind, I am very ignorant on this whole subject)

Thanks so much.

No, no need to edit speed settings or anything else. Just flash the recommended firmware (WH16NS60 1.02-MK) which is the one you mentioned.

The MK firmware is the original firmware with just a little bit of code added to allow MakeMKV to load LibreDrive.
Cheers :D

Thanks so much. Good to hear it's all safe. And hey if it breaks down eventually I just saw your sig and I'm located in Aus it's good to know that's an option too.

Hey thanks for the reply! It's good to know the libredrive firmware changes dont cause any issues. So i was a little unsure that firmware was the -MK one because it has NM in the name instead but you're saying that's the same one? If that's the case then i'll go ahead and do that and have you to thank.

PS: I saw your sig and thank you for running a service like that in our part of the world!
