Looking at other recent posts, these drives seem to be failing pretty often. I've had mine since February, it is the LG BU40N variant. Building a media library, probably 300-400 each DVD and BD with maybe 20 UHD. Just today it started clicking and giving "no disk" in MakeMKV.
Has anyone "fixed" one of these drives that has started clicking? I have to assume it's some sort of mechanical failure.
Has anyone successfully warranty'd one out with Verbatim? (I purchased on Amazon, but well beyond the return window of course.)
Is there a suitable replacement on the market? The 43888 seems to no longer be available from retailers, and the price of used ones has skyrocketed.

They sometimes get confused. You can try powering it off completely for a few minutes before plugging it back in again and see if that helps. Sometimes changing USB ports can also help.bhazard1 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 06, 2025 12:14 amLooking at other recent posts, these drives seem to be failing pretty often. Also, the lasers could be dirty. You can try cleaning them.
Cheers

Unfortunately I've tried both. Including plugging it into another computer, with a different USB cord. It's still recognized in Windows and MakeMKV. Just doesn't recognize discs.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Thu Nov 06, 2025 1:09 amThey sometimes get confused.
