I'm reading some of the notices on the forum and am a little confused. I see information saying the drives need to have older firmware pre Dec 2022. I also see a list of drives that currently are listed to work.
Does that mean they are currently working but only if you can buy them with the older firmware or has there been a workaround and the select listed drives work with the newer firmware despite not being able to upgrade them.
In general I just need a USB capable drive that ran rip. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Drive Selection Help
The Pioneer drives need old firmware, pre 12/2022 for UHD compatibility. Most Pioneer models cannot be downgraded as they all have new firmware. The exceptions are (currently) the BDR-212DBK and BDR-212V. Also the Verbatim 43890 (containing a BDR-UD03) can be cross-flashed to BDR-UD04 to allow UHD ripping. If you get one of these, contact Billycar11 as he can help you with the firmware downgrade/cross-flash. There's also the Verbatim 43888 from Germany which contains a BDR-UD04 and works OOTB.jayman89 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 3:08 amI'm reading some of the notices on the forum and am a little confused. If you want a different Pioneer model, the only way is via a seller on this forum.
None of the above is relevant for LG drives as most of them can be flashed, except the new BP50NB40 SVC:NB72 as it apparently uses a different drive platform.
Cheers

Re: Drive Selection Help
So this drive could be flashed to rip UHD (it's a BDR-212DBK)? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B081R5 ... 52WR&psc=1The Pioneer drives need old firmware, pre 12/2022 for UHD compatibility. I seem to be getting different information on different parts of this forum. Elsewhere I was told, "if it is a Pioneer drive and has firmware dated on or after 12/22/2022, it won't work and cannot be flashed."

Yeah, if the firmware date is before 12/2022. It is not on or after 12/22/2022 it is from December 1st 2022 onwards. If you get that one, just contact Billycar11 once you have it and he can assist you.DarkSkull wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:16 pmSo this drive could be flashed to rip UHD (it's a BDR-212DBK)? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B081R5 ... 52WR&psc=1The Pioneer drives need old firmware, pre 12/2022 for UHD compatibility.
