Questions about my Pioneer BDR-S13UBK

Post by EatCodeGame »

I have a Pioneer BDR-S13UBK internal Blu-ray drive in my Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS server. I have been digging through the forums the last two days trying to figure out if the drive works with MakeMKV or can / needs to be flashed using LibraDrive.

Here is some of the output that maybe useful:

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f -l
Found 1 drives(s)
00: dev_21:0, /dev/sr0, /dev/sr0
  PIONEER_BD-RW___BDR-S13U_1.05_DEDL301563UC

Code: Select all

makemkvcon -r --cache=1 info disc:9999
MSG:1005,0,1,"MakeMKV v1.17.8 linux(x64-release) started","%1 started","MakeMKV v1.17.8 linux(x64-release)"
MSG:5074,0,0,"Automatic checking for updates is enabled, you may disable it in preferences if you don't want MakeMKV to contact web server.","Automatic checking for updates is enabled, you may disable it in preferences if you don't want MakeMKV to contact web server."
DRV:0,0,999,0,"BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-S13U 1.05 DEDL301563UC","","/dev/sr0"
I want to confirm everything will work before purchasing MakeMKV, but I can not figure out a simple way to confirm that my drive is compatible.

It will work with makemkv for regular Blu-ray and DVD but not for UHD it needs old fw and can't be flashed
But I have some with old fw see below

I just got one of these hoping for a more reliable long term backup drive (sadly it has newer firmware). (I do have a Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD that works currently).
What prevents BDR-S13UBK from being flashed? Can these not be flashed over USB or do they have an MCU or ROM that can be flashed with with more knowledge and a MCU programmer?

I'm a noob at video backup but had developed a simple and clean HTTP server for my VLC needs and so have been looking at this more.

Firmware newer than Dec. 2022 is encrypted and can't be flashed and Makemkv can not deal with UHD. Return it and post again. There are sellers in this forum who have drives with old firmware and some drives are available in some countries that can be flashed or work out of the box. Tell us your country of residence.
