BENFEI SATA

Post by djshag »

First, thanks for the helpful guide, tools, and firmware. I'm about to start digitizing several hundred Blu Ray/DVDs so we can pack up all the old discs, and this firmware should allow that process to go as smoothly as possible.

Second, I thought I'd chime in to confirm that the BENFEI SATA to USB 3.0 Cable, USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Drive Adapter (the one with the 12V/2A Power Adapter) from Amazon worked great for flashing my new WH14NS40.
https://a.co/d/396HjXw
I saw some others reference this adapter within this thread, but since it isn't explicitly listed in the "USB enclosures/sata adapters that work with optical drives and flashing" section, and the Amazon posting only mentions CD/DVD I wanted to mention it again for anyone nervous about trying something not on that list.

And finally, I also thought it might be worth warning folks against purchasing the WAVLINK USB C to Dual Bay SATA Adapter,Hard Drive Convertor with 2 USB 3.0 Ports for External 3.5/2.5 Inch SSD HDD SATA III adapter from Amazon for use with an optical drive.
https://a.co/d/396HjXw

I initially picked up the WAVLINK adapter since it provides additional capabilities that could be useful down the line, but once I received it, I found that it doesn't seem to work with the WH14NS40 at all. With it connected, the computer doesn't even recognized there's a drive attached.

The WAVLINK, above, does work fine with some SATA SSDs without a problem, so I'm hanging on to it, but don't expect to buy one to use for reading/flashing an optical drive (at least not the WH14NS40).

I think the link is supposed to be to the one that doesn't work. However, it is to the one that works. Both links in your post link to the same thing. I don't know if that was your intention, but there it is.

Hello,
I have a Pioneer BDR-209D, firmware date 2014-12-05 . Is it possible to make it play in 4K... I have a big doubt, because reading this:
"Make sure your disc was manufactured after 2016 on label or end of 2015 if you want to take the risk."
Which player should I buy then? Pioneer? The Asus ASUS-BW-16D1HT?
Thanks for your answers

You need to post your Makemkv info for your 209D drive to get help for UHD reading.

Hello makemkv Community.

Ive registered to this Forum cause ive updated my BH16NS55 Firmware with the official LG Firmware Updater without knowing so much to what ive needed to do mkvs from UHD Disks to vesion 1.05.

So ive googled and found this nice place. Cause im a self-taught Person ive read all nessesary information.

First try flashing my BH16NS55 ended in error message. Ive read again and rechecked all and i found out that my 1.05 Firmware was encrypted.
So i needed to flash first to 1.05 Firmware from that mkv-firmware-pack and then downgrade to the 1.02.

Now all works. Nice works guys. keep going. Thumps up! :D

I have an LG WH16NS40 that was working fine with 1.02 LibreDrive firmware. Then I found that mk-firmware-pack-20200720.zip had a 1.05 LibreDrive firmware and I thought "newer must be better, I'll get the LG bug fixes plus keep LibreDrive". Things seemed ok. I would occasionally get read errors, but chalked it up to invisible disc damage.

Recently, I pulled a disc out of the shrink wrap to rip it and got read errors. I reverted back to 1.02 firmware and the disc ripped fine. Lesson learned; bigger numbers are not always better. I should have listened to this guide and stayed with 1.02.

What is the most recent guide for flashing a WH16NS40 drive? I haven't done it in several years and my old drive just died and purchased a new one.

1st post of THIS very topic is routinely maintained & current. Replete w/ recommendations for FW for each drive, links to tools, instructions/videos & said FWs. A one stop shop...

Hello, the modified SDFtool Flasher you propose on the first page of this thread give a strange error message when I start it. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

After which I have a button to have more details which give wall of text, (Sorry, my computer being in French, part of the text is too. But I believe it doesn’t affect the relevant bits.) :

WH16NS60 1.02 from that firmware pack is the recommended firmware for your drive and it fixes the sleep bug.

And no, generally newer is not better at all when it comes to drive firmware!
Cheers :D

I can still click on Continue, but SDFtool Flasher is unable to see my Asus BW-16D1HT. (Or anything else, for that matter.)
Is MakeMKV installed (in the default location)? SDFtool Flasher is a front-end for the MakeMKV native flash utility. Met all the requirements detailed on the SDFtool Flasher page?

What is the most recent guide for flashing a WH16NS40 drive? I haven't done it in several years and my old drive just died and purchased a new one.
1st post of THIS very topic is routinely maintained & current. Replete w/ recommendations for FW for each drive, links to tools, instructions/videos & said FWs. A one stop shop...
I tired that for both encrypted and unencrypted and get error for both. My drive is WH16NS40. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
