Hi, I have an old Samsung 506BB but from what I've read this isn't much use. Sorry I'm new all over again to this stuff, it's been a couple of decades lol.
I just want to rip some TV show Blurays. I'm in the UK, what would you guys recommend please (ideally external)? I'm sure I will be fine flashing a drive etc so I don't really need to buy a ready made one I think. Cost is a big factor.
Many thanks.
Drive for ripping 1080p Bluray only? (UHD not needed)
Re: Drive for ripping 1080p Bluray only? (UHD not needed)
The Verbatim model 43888 is a slim, external, reasonably priced drive that works out-of-the-box with MakeMKV and supports ripping UHDs. It happens to have an older Pioneer optical drive inside it.
There isn't much of a cost difference between drives that can possibly rip UHDs and those that can't. There is a cost difference between drives that are good and drives that are bad. The 43888 is reasonably good and reasonably priced.
Will your Samsung 506BB read blu-rays? You might try it with MakeMKV. For DVDs and regular blu-rays, MakeMKV can work with almost any drive that is capable of reading DVDs and/or blu-rays.
