We have made the right decision not to stock this drive any longer and we will take the hit with the return and honour the warranty to our customers. Look like we were caught with this one and we tested hundreds of discs before we stocked it. You work very hard on this forum supporting customers dcoke22, it is credit to you with all the support you offer customers.
Hi everyone,

I noticed that asmcom is selling the Verbatim BDR-UD04 (slimline) on eBay again. I seee there were some issues with this drive in the past. Have these problems been resolved?

I'm currently deciding between the Verbatim BDR-UD04 and the ASUS BW-16D1HT for ripping UHD Blu-rays. According to the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2024, Pioneer drives are still recommended, which adds to my uncertainty.

Given that the prices are roughly the same—the ASUS being a brand-new 2024 model and the Verbatim a 2015 slimline model from asmcom—which drive would you recommend for reliable UHD reading?

Which drive reads UHD discs more reliably?

Thanks for your insights!

I don't own a Verbatim drive, but it is my understanding that recent BDR-UD04 drives have returned to their previous reliability and is a reasonable drive to purchase. In May, 2024 Asmcom posted that recent batches of the Verbatim 43888 had been performing well and they were going to stock them again. https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=152802#p152802

Another seller on this forum has posted his view of the drive rankings: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=154264#p154264
