Opening Verbatim 43888

Post by gck303 »

I have just received my new Verbatim 43888 drive. It works perfectly and I am able to rip blueray and UHD.

I want to mount this drive internally inside a Dell Optiplex. I assume that inside the Verbatim USB device is a standard SAT drive?

How do I open it?

There are no screws or anything else that seemes like a way in. Just two narrow slits down each side.

Thanks, George

Pretty much this will need brute force because the two housings are just connected usings snaps. It will most likely have a slim SATA interface. So you will need a slim SATA to full size SATA adapter and also a special drive bay for the slim drive to fit a 5,25" bay. Pretty expensive and in addition you lose your warranty for the Verbatim drive. I recommend not to do this. Tell me your country of residence and I will suggest to get a full size 5,25" Pioneer drive that still can be made UHD capable.

I have a SFF optiplex which takes a slimline drive.

So... I am guessing that if I prize it open that it should fit just fine?

I don't like the idea.

1) You will void warranty
2) You still need the slim to full size SATA adapter

Depending on your country you can get a full size flashable Pioneer starting at $80. Instead of spending the money on anythimg else you would have a second drive. Let me / us know and you will get a PM.

What did you end up doing? Total cost and time invested?

@Coopervid: could you contact me regarding a flashable Pioneer drive? I can't send PMs due to my newbieness.

Thank you
