Post by Faber »

Is the BDR-S13UBK worth the extra $55?

I can't find a Pioneer model named BDR-S13UBP. Perhaps you mean the BDR-S13-UBK?

In any case, Pioneer updated their firmware in 2023 to disable MakeMKV's LibreDrive functionality, meaning drives with the newer firmware can't rip UHDs.

Pioneer firmware update February 2023

Pretty much every Pioneer drive you can buy at retail has the new firmware. Your best bet for a Pioneer drive is to buy one from a seller in your region who has new drives with old firmware.

Yeah, I meant the BDR-S13UBK.

I know about the firmware, but I wasn’t sure if it might’ve been cracked.
