LG WH16NS40 vs WH14NS40?

Post by billbillw »

My old LG BD burner from ~2011 works fine, but I'm thinking about replacing it for extra read speed and also just because its old...I also was wondering about the ability to rip BD UHD discs since I just finally got a 4k TV, which brought me to this subforum (great info by the way, thanks Billycar11!)

I checked online for what is available at my local Microcenter and they have like 2 remaining WH14NS40 and a bunch of WH16NS40. The price difference is like $10. Assuming they are both from stock made after mid-2015, is there really any benefit to the 16NS40 over the 14NS40 or vice versa? If they both get crossflashed to the NS60 firmware, will they essentially be the same after that?

From the perspective of their use with MakeMKV, I don't think there's a difference. Just get the cheaper one. If you want to do things other than use it with MakeMKV, then there might be a difference.
