Sorry if this has been asked but how do I find out if my drive has encrypted or unencrypted firmware? I just got the Asus BW-16D1HT and want to flash it but I can't figure out if I should use the cmd prompt with the "enc" extension or not.
The 1st post in this thread has a list of known encrypted FWs (& MANY other things) . It remains the "definitive guide" on this topic.
I've seen it but couldn't figure out how to check my drive if it has these known encrypted firmwares or not. Do you know how I would do that?

if sdf tool is not working just use the command line commands and my video thats why i have both up martys sdf tool should always be tried first but if that fails you can do it direct with cmd.
your firmware is not encrypted dont use enc

Just wanted to send a thanks to everyone involved in creating the guide, the flasher, and the modified firmwares. I was able to purchase the right drive, the right external enclosure, and find the right firmware and flash it with little fanfare. Now I can rip the UHD disks I have sitting here in my family room.

Thanks! Had almost given up, then I used this guide "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow" and it worked perfectly!

Hello everyone.

I tried to flash the drive firmware in order to enable LibreDrive, but unfortunately it failed with the following message:

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f --all-yes -d /dev/sr0 -v rawflash -i ~/Downloads/mk-firmware-pack-20200720/MK/HL-DT-ST/BH16NS60/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS60-1.02-NM00600-212005081014.bin
Loaded SDF.bin version 0x7e

Reading input file ~/Downloads/mk-firmware-pack-20200720/MK/HL-DT-ST/BH16NS60/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS60-1.02-NM00600-212005081014.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__BH16NS60_1.01_211901041419_KLJJ6OA2118

Write flags NG 05/FF/03

Command produced error code 0x8f05ff03
I tried this on windows and linux, but none of them work. I also tried the GUI tool, but the same error code pop up.

The following is my drive information

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS60
Revision: 1.01
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 14:19
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

No disc inserted
Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Thanks very much.

Please try the newest flasher 1.2.2 from here and make sure the tray is closed and you have no disc in the drive.

Thanks for the response. I already tried that tool, but doesn't work. I am able to dump the firmware, but the write will fail with the same error as I posted before

I was able to flash the firmware after using this legacy flasher: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18873#p70284

Started trying this again to get my 4k UHD discs to rip, still having some issues. Running on a headless ubuntu server. Running with or without enc command gives the same error. This is on a LG WH16NS60.

Running the following command:

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f --all-yes -d /dev/sr0 rawflash enc -i mkvfirmware/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
Getting the following error:

Code: Select all

Reading input file mkvfirmware/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Sending image in encrypted format
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_KLNL26E4242
DEBUG: Code 4280012805 at Mx=Q{%DdK23UWRSK}6/xi^l-6'?wWl*&:121264648

Command produced error code 0x8f1bd005
Is there a command I can run to give better diagnostics as to what my disc is for better searching/troubleshooting

Could someone help walk me through the steps to flash my Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK to work with MakeMKV?

I tried following the guides but it's a little overwhelming with so many options. I downloaded the SDFTool Flasher and the "All You Need Firmware Pack", but I'm not sure which firmware file I should use with this Buffalo drive.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I just got a BH16NS40 / SVC:NS51, here's the information I get:

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: (hidden)
Firmware date: 2115-12-11 14:36
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

From this information, do I still have to flash in order to read UHD disks, or is it actually unneeded (as everything is marked OK)? I thought flashing was necessary for all UHD friendly drives, but I'm not sure how to interpret this report...
I don't have UHD disks yet (was waiting to have an enabled drive before I'd start buying), otherwise I'd already be testing of course.
No flashing needed.
You could flash the WH16NS60 1.02 MK for higher read speeds. Read the flash guide where to find the firmware pack

Hi,

If I buy an LG BH16NS55, I am sure it will be UHD compatible ? (after flashing with WH16NS60 1.02MK firmware...)

Will I then be able to burn BD-R/RE or it will be blocked and in fact, I will only be able to read my BRD and BRD UHD ?
