I am not sure. I don't know if someone would want to deal with a potentially bricked drive. So the choice is yours.

Perhaps offer it here on this thread at first and see if someone (perhaps the OP) would reach out to you via PM (not thread IMO) for the details and charges. Might be a bit more considering how your drive is currently situated.

I finally fixed my drive!

DOSFlash really did the trick, the lack of IDE mode in my current rig BIOS was the issue. Once I put together my old motherboard, ram, CPU, M&K, I was able to go through the recovery process just fine.

I bought an LG W16NS60 drive before I knew about all the awesome work done by the good folks on this forum.

So I've re-flashed it with WH16NS60 1.02MK and it works perfectly with MakeMKV! (Thanks for the SDFtool Flasher, MartyMcNuts)

Now my question. Is there a FW version that will let me use the drive with AnyDVD for playing UHD Blu-Ray discs? I've read that this is possible but I'd like to double check with the group here to get the real scoop.

I'm running J River's Media Center and everything works just fine for standard Blu-Ray and I'd like to be able to make the leap to UHD.

Thanks for all the great work - looking forward to your feedback...

use makemkv integration with j river.
if you make it work with anydvd you will be forced to have the sleepbug and thats annoying on live play back if you ever pause

just know the integration does not work with the trial version

Thanks for the suggestion. I know MC can rip using MakeMKV but I haven't been able to find anything about integration. Where can I learn more?

I'd still like to know how to get AnyDVD compatibility to understand all my options. The sleep bug may not be a deal breaker for me.

I'm trying to flash using ubuntu command line on a headless plex server. I am running the following command:

Code: Select all

makemkvcon f -d HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_KLNL26E4242 -i HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin rawflash enc -f sdf.bin
And getting the following error:

Code: Select all

Reading input file HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Sending image in encrypted format
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_KLNL26E4242
DEBUG: Code 4280012805 at Mx=Q{%DdK23UWRSK}6/xi^l-6'?wWl*&:121264648

Command produced error code 0x8f1bd005
Getting the same error when changing out the enc in my command for main or even not including anything there, when trying with sudo it's giving me an error about file not found, does this mean I have to type out the entire file path since running as sudo?

So I got integration working with J River MC - AWESOME!!

I can now play both HD and UHD Blu-Ray discs.

Only one problem: Menus and playing titles other than the main film don't work and crash MC. Is this a known issue?

I'll check over on J River's Interact forum as well.

Thanks again!

I have 2 internal and 1 external drive.
LG WH16NS60
LG WH14NS40

External:
ASUS BW12D1S-U USB drive

I'm just curious as I have had NO problems using MKV with these for a few years now. Is there any reason why I should flash the LG drives?

Also I am building a new computer and I need to house the 2 external drives. Would I just use 2 of the recommended "USB enclosures/sata adapters" on the first page? I would really like a 3 bay unit or at the least a 2 bay unit. Not sure if the Icy Box can be stacked and attached together.

Hey all
Firstly a huge thank you to Mike, Billy, Marty, Blackened and everyone else who has contributed.
I'm reminiscing of the old days when LightningUK /DVDDecyptor was around...that's the last time I dabbled in back ups, showing my age! lol

I will more than likely choose MakeMKV... but would like the option to try other software as a comparison first.
I understand MK firmware will only work on MakeMKV.

A few questions please:

If I want to stay on official firmware but downgrade BU40N from 1.04 to 1.00, I first need to Flash to 1.03MK then I can go to 1.00 official (DE Version)...is this correct? or can I go from 1.04 - 1.00?

Once I do eventually flash to 1.03MK...if at a later date I want to go back to old version/DE or new, would that still work?

Apart from MK or latest firmware, is there no other workaround/ crossflash available to resolve the sleep bug?

Also has anyone managed to find alternate sata cases for BU40N (that work for firmware changes) ?

Yes you flash mk 1.03 first then 1.00
Some mk firmware works with other rippers for UHD but mostly on friendly drives not officiall

I have read through the posts several times and am still confused. I have a LG BH16NS60 which on firmware 1.03. After reading the firmware update posts I downloaded the sdftool_flasher. When I run it the flasher shows the following information:

HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_KLIL3U95004

I compared this against the list of HL-DT-ST with "encrypted" downgrades check and still was certain whether mine is included in the list. I saw that "HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03-N000600-212005081010.bin" was on the list but wasn't sure if this matched my drive/firmware.

Next after reading the forum it appeared it was best to use the "MK" firmware version rather than the "DE" firmware. But when I tried to download the latest MK firmware at "https://www.makemkv.com/download/mk-fir ... 200720.zip" I get an error "This account has been suspended. Matter of fact if I try to access anything related to "mike admin" I get the same message. I have tried from multiple machines.

Does anyone have an alternative link to get the latest "MK" firmware?
