So I was in the process of ripping my entire library. So earlier in the day it ripped a BD successfully. Then I had been ripping DVD's then I tried to rip another BD and it just showed it as no disk. This actually happened before I changed the firmware on the drive. I was just running the firmware out of the box. I do not own any UHD disk's so I was not worried about updating the firmware right away.

For context at the time it was connected to a Ubuntu setup. Since then I had moved (physically) to my windows computer and it has the same issue on there. So it has been powered off fully and back on. Oddly, windows showed it as a BD-Drive soft of, in the file explorer that is what the drive was called. Yet still putting in a BD disk it just said there was nothing there. Windows still probably did not read it as a BD drive just was labeled as such.

Since I just purchased it from Amazon. I think I am just going to do a return on it for faulty hardware.

Hi, i have a BH16NS40 (1st gen, SVC Code NS40)
I had version 1.02 but accidentally updated it with the 1.05 (SVC Code NS50).
There is some chance to downgrade.
The player no longer reads any discs.

Hello

Stupidly I upgraded my WH14NS40 to 1.05. Then I bought my first ever 4K Blu Ray disc.

I've tried using BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe on ROMs:
DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH14NS40_1.02_NS50.bin
DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin

...and get checksum errors.

Any ideas on what exactly I need to do?

Many thanks..

Have you read and tried the method discussed here yet:

And we can’t stress enough to carefully read and pay attention to the instructions and/or warnings noted within.

Thanks - no I didn't, I started elsewhere so I've begun again from your link....
I've backedup/dumped my existing 1.05 firmware with SDFTool Flasher.

I'm assuming I flash my desktop BluRay H14NS40 with SDFTool Flasher to:
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH14NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061444

And then afterwards to DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_1.01
?

Thanks for this...

OK I managed to do it, I've moved from the original firmware WH14NS40 1.05 to DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_1.01 (see specs). The main gotcha was knowing when to tick the encrpted tickbox. Not sure if I have the best firmware for the player or not, but I've just managed to rip Terminator 2 (4K) with DVDFab.

(I did try DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_1.01.bin but this didn't work very well with DVD Fab)

If anybody has a WH14NS40, please let me know what you did (and why ideally)... appreciated..

I bought the LG BP50NB40 and according to the sticker on the bottom the ROM version is 1.03. Hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm these steps so I don't brick it.

1. Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin using ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer
2. Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin using ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer
3. Done?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Step 1 is ok, but you can't use the ASUS flasher as your drive has encrypted firmware. Use the "SDFtool Flasher" with "enc?" checked.
Step 2 should be: Flash BP60NB10 1.01-MK from the MK/old folder using SDFtool Flasher with "enc?" unchecked. Don't use BP60NB10 1.02 as it's crap.

Done!
Cheers :D

Hello, I'm extremely new at did and I've been reading a lot of the posts in this thread. I'm simply looking for a 4k blu ray drive to rip my 4k movies to my PC and was thinking to get the ASUS BW-16D1HT. Do I simply flash it to MK 3.10? or will I need to use the SDFtool if the existing firmware on the drive is encrypted? I just finished reading all 56 pages of this thread! Sorry for the newb question, I just want to make sure I do this right so I don't brick my new drive! Thanks so much!

I'm not sure if I'm just a total idiot (very well could be the case) or something's up, I've gone down rabbit holes trying this that and the other but no matter what tool I use it just gives me an error.

The ASUS doesn't have encrypted firmware, so yes simply flash 3.10-MK.

No problem. Also, I mentioned using 1.01-MK in step 2, which is ok, however, I just wanted to say that BP60NB10 1.00-MK is also good and is what I personally use.
Cheers :D
