Does MakeMKV itself touch the drive firmware?

Post by darkmode »

I have a very basic, general question having to do with a specific problem…

Does MakeMKV itself change or in any way touch drive firmware?

Reason for asking: Yesterday I installed version 1.15.4 (having used previous versions without problem) and my drive completely stopped working. It's not recognized by Windows or Linux (same machine), and the eject button doesn't even work.

This is a rather old ASUS BC-12B1ST b drive. It could have just coincidentally died right at the moment I started to use it with the newest version of MakeMKV, but I thought I would check with more knowledgeable people.

I can provide details if this problem is of interest or something that the developers should know about. I'll hold off on that for now in case this is an open-and-shut case of something else being the problem.

Thanks in advance and I hope I haven't posted this in the wrong forum section. 8)

MakeMKV (the program) will not alter the firmware on the drive.
