Title: [UHD] TRON_ARES – AACS Bus Encryption still enabled (MKBv82)
Hello,
I would like to report an issue with the UHD disc "TRON_ARES".
Passkey 9.4.7.7 detects the disc, removes AACS (MKBv82), but AACS Bus Encryption remains enabled.
MakeMKV also fails to decrypt the disc.
Here is the Passkey log:
Vendor: HL-DT-ST, Product: BD-RE WH16NS60
Revision: 1.00
AACS v1, AGIDs: 2
Disc media: Blu-ray (UHD-BDMV)
Volume name: TRON_ARES
AACS protection is removed (MKBv82)
AACS bus encryption is enabled
Main playlist: 00000.mpls
Edition: (France / specify your country)
Could you please add support for this disc in a future update?
Thank you.

Since you are running Passkey I assume you are on Windows.
So download KeyDB Helper. Run it. Click synchronize and restart Makemkv. It will install the keydb.cfg and you should be able to decrypt this disc. Run the program from time to time and synchronize to add all new keys.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I did run KeyDB Helper, synchronized the database, and MakeMKV does load the keydb.cfg correctly.
However, this does not solve the issue with this disc.
Here is my drive information from MakeMKV:
Drive: HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60
Firmware version: 1.00
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
LibreDrive: Enabled
Bus encryption markers: 17
The problem is that my WH16NS60 is still running the original 1.00 firmware, which is not patched.
Even though LibreDrive shows as “Enabled”, the stock firmware does NOT disable AACS Bus Encryption on UHD discs.
Because of that, MakeMKV cannot decrypt recent UHD titles such as TRON_ARES (MKBv82), even with a correct keydb.cfg.
To decrypt this disc, the drive must first be flashed with a LibreDrive‑compatible MK firmware (1.02MK or 1.03MK).
Only then will AACS Bus Encryption be disabled and the disc will open normally.
So the issue is not KeyDB Helper — it’s the original firmware still installed on the drive IA said...

So flash to 1.02 and if you need 1.00 for Passkey just flash it back to that.

BTW- I never heard that bus encryption can't be disabled with firmware 1.00. This is really fishy.

OK thanks, I'll try as soon as I have some time between now and tomorrow or this weekend... yes, but it’s AI, so it might be nonsense. However, Passkey asked me to downgrade to 1.0 when starting the movie, otherwise it was already hanging... on the other hand, I couldn't find the firmware to download on the forum?? A little help with that would be welcome... have a good evening!

The All you need firmware pack has both.

LibreDrive can disable AACS bus encryption on the stock WH16NS60 1.00 firmware.

Absolutely not true. People have been using MakeMKV with WH16NS60 1.00 to backup UHD discs for almost a decade.

I'm sure you mean well but every AI/LLM which I've seen folks cite for this sort of thing has been absolutely useless.
